Orchestration to me is taking a composers vision and expanding upon it to enhance the storytelling while remaining true to the composers intent. This is all for the greater goal of creating musical cohesion through strong, dramaturgical use of genre.
I am experienced in both writing original orchestrations for new work, and reducing full orchestrations to fit the needs of the theater. My work spans from leading the orchestration of the largest student written musical in the country to reducing full golden age scores into new styles.

I was lead orchestrator for the largest student written musical in the country. I created orchestrations for 11 players from compositions written by over a dozen writers, spanning genres from pop, rock and blues to spy movie jazz ballads. I mentored three first time orchestrators from first draft to final orchestration

Reduction
I was lead orchestrator for Northwestern’s 80’s influenced cross-gender cast production of Frank Loesser’s pulitzer prize winning classic. I reduced the original instrumentation from 25 to 11 players, utilizing synths and electric guitar to capture the 80’s feel while maintaining the core intent of Robert Ginzler original orchestrations.
